SUPPORT GROUP LEADERS

WHO ARE THE SUPPORT GROUP LEADERS?

These are trained volunteers from SVK Liitto who organize meetings for people with common interests or issues. They create a safe environment for communication and help participants find support from one another. Thanks to their work, people are better able to cope with difficulties, receive emotional support, and strengthen their sense of community.

HOW DO THEY HELP?

Support group leaders create their own groups — spaces for communication where people with similar interests meet. They guide discussions, helping participants find solutions in difficult situations — from integration to health or family issues. Leaders have the opportunity to implement their ideas by creating and organizing their own support groups within SVK Liitto. This allows them to apply their skills in practice and gain work experience in Finland.

HOW DO SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS WORK?

The leaders themselves determine the topic of the meetings and the format, whether online or offline. They organize regular meetings where participants can discuss issues that concern them, find support, and exchange useful advice. The group leader guides the discussion, ensures the rules are followed, and helps each participant find their place within the group.

HOW TO BECOME A SUPPORT GROUP LEADER?

To become a support group leader, you must undergo training and receive certification from SVK Liitto. The training program covers key aspects of the challenges faced by immigrants, as well as developing communication and group management skills. This allows volunteers to not only develop leadership qualities and try out their own ideas but also provide significant help to people by supporting them in addressing personal and social issues. Information about upcoming training sessions for becoming a support group leader can be found in the "Training" section.
